The first things that comes to mind when thinking about what many Catholics lack is conviction. As defined by Webster’s Dictionary, it is “the feeling of being sure that what you believe or say is true”. Instead, many Catholics are joining in on the ranks of others in the world who believe in same-sex marriage, birth control, abortion, etc.
We as Catholics have a duty to stand fast to the teachings of the Catholic Church. For 2016 years the core teachings of the Church has stayed the same. Has there been difficult times throughout the Churches history? Yes! However, since Catholicism is the one true Christian religion it will always be attacked and those who are weak will easily be influenced by evil to ruin the very Church that Jesus started.
Marriage is the unity of love, two souls coming together to create new life from their love with Gods intervention. Birth control does not allow the life to be created, which turns the act of love merely into an earthly pleasure. Catholics do not believe in birth control because it completely kills the chance of new life. Which leads next to what should be taught, abstinence! Sex before marriage is a sin and that will always be the case. If as Catholics we accept the use of birth control as a method to stopping life, then you are a heretic. Sound kind of harsh? Good, it is the truth. That is what needs to be said. When we do not look at the beauty of creation of life, then we are quick to look for a means of “getting rid” of it – through abortion. That is today’s society, so quick to not think before doing something and doing it only to gain pleasure – whether it is with sex, alcohol, stealing, drugs, addiction to technology, etc. Then not facing up to the consequences that come because of those behaviors, instead looking for a way out. Murder through the unborn baby has become an acceptable solution to choices that another person made.
Gay marriage is another “hot topic” which Catholics are divided upon. Marriage is the unity between a man and a woman because out of that love new life is created. When we turn marriage into a politically and socially motivated issue then the beauty behind it is lost. For 2016 years, the Catholic church has taught that practicing and having homosexual thoughts is a sin.
We as Catholics should be the first to speak out against these issues. We are here to attain the ability to spend eternity with our Lord. We are here to live in the world to bring others to Christ, not to live of the world. The more Catholics don’t speak out against these issues, or worse they take the side of the world (such as with gay marriage, abortion, birth control, etc.) – they are siding with the devil. There is no way to skirt around the issue and I am not going to sit by and watch others following the world blindly.
We live in a world guided by evil because we have dismissed the idea of evil. Our society is one of doing anything that brings pleasure while trashing those who stand for the truth of Christ. Vatican II ushered in a new era, one that will see spiritual demise of many Catholics simply because they have lost the respect that is Catholicism. We are not a kumbaya religion that teaches only love but also the importance of repentance. As Jesus Christ Himself says, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
Help me to stay true to the Catholic teachings,
To spread Your word wherever I go.
To stand strong against those who have become too of the world,
To steer them back to the path of truth.
I am a humble servant of You Lord and I wish live my life for You,
Even if that means getting attacked for Your glory.
It’s Prayer Breakdown time!!
The Glory Be is the prayer that we will be focusing on today, which is a very common prayer to all Catholics. So common, that we often times recite it without true understanding of what it means. Glory be to the Father, And to the Son, And to the Holy Spirit, As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
Glory be to the Father
When we use the term glory, it is used as a high form of endearment. It is used for those who are magnificent and worthy of great honor. In this case it is appropriately used to describe God, who created us, sent us His Son to save our lives and loves us more than we could ever know. Every day we should be giving Glory to God because of all the blessings that He has bestowed upon us. It is beautiful to think about everything that we have been blessed with from God; family, friends, food, the sun, moon, stars and every breath we are able to take. We consciously give God the honor that He so deserves because of His everlasting love.
And to the Son
Again, we give great honor to the Son of God who is Jesus Christ. Jesus was given to us through the love that God had for us. Jesus was completely man yet completely divine, however He never used that to His advantage. He could have boasted about how great He was because He was the son of God but instead He humbled Himself. He came to save the sinners and those who did not have God in the complete and true way. He came to bring peace, love and fulfillment to those who were willing to dedicate their life to Jesus.
The Holy Spirit gives us gifts, seven to be exact, they are: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. These are important gifts that are given because they help us to live a more fulfilled life in Christ. The Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples, allowing them to speak in tongues, “Jesus sends the Holy Spirit in the form of fiery tongues on His Apostles and disciples” (Acts 2:2-4). This was done so that they could more fully spread the truth of Jesus Christ to others, in order that they could also be saved.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end
Honor will always be with God, just as it was in the beginning, how it is now and how it will always be. This will never go away, to the end of the earthly world and the beginning of the next in Heaven. The Trinity will always be the divine presence that defines our life and our faith. We should always give praise to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The next time you say this prayer, remember what it stands for. It is said for the purpose of giving honor to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the Holy Trinity.
